Welcome to the website of Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) Sustainability

UTeM is committed to the integrated Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agenda in every aspect of university activities. UTeM takes pride in being an active contributor to the global effort to achieve the Sustainable Development Agenda 2030 outlined by the United Nations.

UTeM implements SDGs as a guide for ethical and responsible innovation, research, education, and campus operations. By integrating the 17 SDG goals into its development strategy, UTeM not only educates future leaders who are sensitive to sustainability issues but also produces research that positively impacts society and the environment.

This webpage serves as an information hub for UTeM's initiatives, achievements, and latest developments in implementing the SDGs, demonstrating how UTeM contributes to the journey towards a fairer, healthier, and more prosperous world. Together, let's build towards sustainability that ensures well-being for all.

What is the Sustainable Development Agenda?

The Sustainable Development Agenda, also known as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), refers to the 17 goals developed by the United Nations in 2015 as an action plan for humanity, the planet, prosperity, and peace by 2030. Through these 17 goals, there are 169 targets and 247 indicators proposed to realize all of these goals (see Figure 1).

SDG @ UTeM

To strengthen SDG initiatives at UTeM, the first step is to ensure support and direct involvement from top management. This includes conducting SDG Alignment Workshops and developing UTeM's Strategic Plan among university management (F1 Team) and forming an SDG committee that functions at the level of Centers of Responsibility (PTj) and University Authorities (PBU). Through these initiatives, awareness and understanding of SDGs can be reinforced at all university levels, ensuring effective and holistic implementation of SDG initiatives.

Furthermore, to enhance SDG culture, UTeM has organized the SDG Sustainable Corner Competition, providing space for each PTj and PBU to share their SDG initiatives. This initiative was aligned with UTeM's 23rd Anniversary Celebration. The competition aims to promote collaboration among staff in PTj, strengthen awareness of SDGs, and recognize efforts made in creating positive impacts on sustainable development.
