Integrated Design Project (IDP) at Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM)
Integrated Design Project (IDP) required the students to use the fundamentals of engineering knowledge to solve engineering problems or develop a practical product with consideration of safety, environment, and sustainability factors. The product development process involved integration of market study, conceptual design, material selection, process selection, engineering analysis and product fabrication or system development while incorporating project management components and economic feasibility study. The IDP project was executed with a team-based approach with supervision by academic lecturers to enhance teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills in accordance with industrial practice. At the end of this course, students were showcased their product with a physical working prototype and pitch their product with an interactive video demonstration.
At the end of the course, students were able to:
Design solution by synthesizing manufacturing engineering knowledge that will solve complex manufacturing engineering problems in accordance with relevant standards.
Utilize modern engineering and IT tools in facilitating solutions to complex manufacturing engineering problems with an understanding of the limitations.
Evaluate the impact of the design product, component, or processes in terms of safety, environmental and sustainability factors.
Effectively demonstrate teamwork skills in completing the IDP.
Apply project management and financial knowledge effectively in completing the IDP.
