Policy Addressing Poverty 2024
The Scholarship Division of the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) provides 20 Sponsorship Programmes for students to pursue their studies, from the certificate level up to a Doctoral Degree (PhD).
This initiative functions as a national mechanism to reduce financial barriers to higher education, particularly for students from B40 and economically disadvantaged households. By providing tuition coverage, living allowances, and academic support, the sponsorship programmes promote equitable access to education and directly contribute to efforts in reducing poverty through educational empowerment and upward social mobility.
Some of the sponsorship programmes that have been provided by MoHE include:
- MyBrain 2.0 Programme: For eligible Malaysian citizens to pursue Master's and PhD degrees at local higher education institutions
- MyBrainSc Programme: Specifically for students pursuing studies in pure sciences such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics at public universities.
- B40 Financial Assistance (Bantuan Kewangan Asas): For students from low-income families (B40) studying at public universities and community colleges.
- Excellent Student Sponsorship for Polytechnics: For outstanding students from polytechnics to further their studies.
- Tokoh Siswa Award Sponsorship: For recipients of the Tokoh Siswa Award to pursue higher education.
- Malaysia International Scholarship (MIS): An initiative by the Malaysian government to attract excellent international students to pursue postgraduate studies at leading Malaysian universities.
