Pengurusan Tenaga Efisien (SDG 7)

Program 1: Energy Management Matrix (MaPTeP)

Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) actively conducts energy reviews to identify areas where energy wastage is highest. One of the key initiatives is the implementation of internal audits through MaPTeP (Energy Management Matrix). This tool provides a structured framework for evaluating energy performance across various operational aspects of the university. It helps assess compliance with energy management standards, monitor energy consumption patterns, and pinpoint inefficiencies in systems and processes. By using MaPTeP, UTeM can prioritize corrective actions, optimize energy usage, and support continuous improvement towards achieving sustainable energy management goals.

Program 2: Integrated Optimal Demand Response Simulation (OptiDR-Simulator) With Cooling Energy Management System (CEMS)

The technology applied has been designed by researchers and engineers in UTeM. Since the cooling systems for buildings are started as early as between 7:00-7:30 am, the early prediction for the set point temperature and patent of the load was forecasted by using an intelligence process at the data-based system. The advanced integration technology reflects the smart demand side management which is comprehensively applied the big data analytics through several processes.

On the other hand, the implemented integrated system enhances the performance of demand response benefits under the UTeM C1 OPTR tariff scheme. By applying this replicable technology, UTeM can sustain the load factor improvement to get an OPTR discount every month. Thus, it is forecasted that UTeM can save about MYR 4.2 million for the next TEN (10) years. The product can be applied in various commercial and industrial buildings registered under the OPTR scheme.

In 2024, UTeM does not have an explicit divestment policy from carbon-intensive industries like coal and oil. The focus is mainly on internal energy efficiency, and carbon reduction strategies. In 2025, solar panels are actively installed in academic building around main campus.

Analysis of load profile is essential to investigate any abnormalities in power consumption. It also provide potential energy saving to the organization.
